imglikeopera and firefox 3

May 23rd, 2008 · 6 Comments

So i’ve been using firefox 3 beta, and now that firefox 3 rc 1 is out, i’m frustrated that my favourite add-on, namely imglikeopera, does not work with ff 3, and since the author has not updated it since December 2006(!), I decided to look for workaround to this, since it’s mainly an on/off switch extension, so it wouldn’t be too complex that it’s programmatically incompatible with ff 3.

Turns out it’s true, and with the workaround i can use imglikeopera again flawlessly with ff 3. It’s basically just editing the file install.rdf that comes with the xpi package. Here’s the link to the article :

While it does seem to work ok, it creates an error
Failed to load XPCOM component: C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\{profile}.default\extensions\imglikeopera@imfo.ru\components\nsIImgLikeOpera.idl

you’re right, it’s not flawless, i realize it after a few days… my bad, i’m sorry, i guess i should re-post something about this un-flawless-ness.

    Hi there-
from my experience it works fine with FF3:
ImgLikeOpera is internally compatible with 3.x, but it’s RDF file says it’s not-
I’ve created a fixed version which will install under FF3 here:

After using it for a few days now, ImgLikeOperah also acts a little strange with the filters (the images won’t always show up, or may suddenly appear when I mouse-over them). And when I right click, I get ‘Load Image’ and ‘Show Image’ context menu items. I assume the ‘Show Image’ item is new to Firefox 3.

The “Show Image” is a firefox 3 feature - not sure what it does, exactly, that load image doesn’t.
You’re right about the glitches, however 2.0.14 had equal number of glitches with ImgLikeOpera, just in different areas. If you turn on Image placeholders and set it to arial narrow, 6, helps a bit.
