DRM and Windows Vista

This is an interesting article entitled “A Cost Analysis of Windows Vista Content Protection” by Peter Gutmann (pgut001@cs.auckland.ac.nz),
It’s really for Windows people to help decide on upgrading to Microsoft’s new OS, Windows Vista.

It’s stupid, how the fact that, you can’t play a protected audio content over S/P DIF output (which for audiophile will be a big no), and cannot play HD video content on an HD-ready monitor (yes you can watch and do everything else that monitor can do, except playback of HD video content, how stupid…).

I mean, just look at the Table of Contents, list of things you lost because of Content (Over) Protection :
Disabling of Functionality
Indirect Disabling of Functionality
Decreased Playback Quality
Elimination of Open-source Hardware Support
Elimination of Unified Drivers
Denial-of-Service via Driver/Device Revocation
Decreased System Reliability
Increased Hardware Costs
Increased Cost due to Requirement to License Unnecessary Third-party IP
Unnecessary CPU Resource Consumption
Unnecessary Device Resource Consumption

How obviously that Content Protection is a big NO. :|

Hmm, it think its not easy to sentence windows Vista is bad, and upgrade to it is stupidity.

Good or Bad a OS depend on user, i believe that. Home user like many of them prefer to get better nice n glow display, but others prefer to simplicity, performance n security. I believe, Bill Gates lead windows vista project doesn’t mean Nothing.

Note: This is not a flame trigger

Yes, of course, Windows Vista is a good competitor, a big competitor, which is good for the market.
